The Junius Heights streetcar is being disassembled and moved out of the old Spaghetti Warehouse building.
After months of prep work, the shell of Streetcar 707, built in the mid-1920s, was taken apart this week, The Dallas Morning News reports.
A spokesperson for the Junius Heights Historic District says the streetcar is still being removed from the building. It will be stored at Orr Reed Architectural Co., which has donated warehouse space where the streetcar will be kept while undergoing refurbishment, the Advocate confirmed.
In March, the Junius Heights Historic District hosted a fundraising event to renovate and store the streetcar until it can be returned to Old East Dallas.
The streetcar was one of the items auctioned off after Spaghetti Warehouse closed on N. Market Street, but when the buyer realized how much it would cost to get the streetcar out of the building, the buyer abandoned the deal. Later, the building owner offered to donate the streetcar to the historic neighborhood.
Where the streetcar will ultimately end up hasn't yet been decided, the Junius Heights Historic District spokesperson says.
