A supermarket trolley on the track caused commuters to be delayed for nearly two hours yesterday (December 6) evening.
The obstruction affected services heading towards Weymouth after a train hit a trolley on the line at Poole.
The incident was first reported shortly after 8.20pm with disruption and delays lasting until 10pm.
A spokesperson for South Western Railway said: "We were informed that a train had hit a supermarket trolley on the line at Poole.
"The trolley (was) removed and all lines re-opened.
"We apologise for any delay this may have caused to your journey."
Commuters whose journey was delayed by 15 minutes or more may be entitled to compensation through the Delay Repay scheme.
