ReVision Energy completed the installation of its first solar carport in New Hampshire. The downtown Manchester solar canopy is located on the top floor of a new six-story parking garage, across the street from the Hilton Garden Inn and Northeast Delta Dental Stadium, home of Minor League Baseball's New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

The 44.8-kW carport provides a portion of the electricity used within the parking facility and offers shade for up to eight vehicles. Quest Renewables designed, engineered and fabricated the QuadPod double cantilever system for the solar carport. REC manufactured the 130 solar panels installed on the truss.

"This project showed both the robustness and value of the QuadPod system. The system is on the top floor of the garage, where you have to design for a snow load of 60 pounds per square foot," said Will Arnold, VP of sales and products at Quest Renewables.

The carport truss required just five days to construct and erect, including the mounting of the inverters, solar panels and direct current wiring. The QuadPod system was assembled adjacent to the garage at ground level, significantly limiting the amount of work and equipment needed on the deck itself.

Harvey Construction served as the general contractor on the $34 million parking garage project, officially known as the Millyard Parking Garage. The facility provides nearly 1,700 free parking spaces for Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) employees.

"This particular garage only allows for lightweight scissor lifts and forklifts, conditions that would typically present large barriers to steel construction. To see the structure built in five days, including only one crane day, is a testament to the continued evolution of our product and to the ReVision Energy team," Arnold added. "Their people are truly top-notch professionals dedicated to delivering high-quality systems."
